  • Dr Majumdar shares the political ideology of the Biju Janata Dal led by five-time state Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik

  • He admires the CM’s dedication to the people of the state, his welfare programmes and his administrative acumen. He is also an ardent admirer of the indomitable Bijubabu.

  • Dr Majumdar’s wife, Dr Subhalaxmi Rautray, is an Associate professor in SCB Medical College, Cuttack. She is an ENT specialist. His only child Sayanjyoti Das Mohapatra is in his MBBS 4th year. Source of income is salary, ancestral land and property, and rent.

Popular Support Base and Public Image

  • Dr Majumdar’s grand-father late Giridhari Das Mohapatra was a freedom fighter.

  • His grand paternal uncle late Jagyeswar Das Mohapatra was shot dead by the British forces in a protest during the freedom movement.

  • His mother late Menaka Das Mohapatra (Majumdar) donated land to establish a school named Bajitpur lower primary school in the village as the first school to be established in the area

  • His father late Ghanashyam Das Majumdar (Mohapatra) a social worker and freedom fighter had to change his name and stay in disguise to hide from the Britishers. He also built two schools named as "R.K.J. ME School, Bajitpur" and "Seemanta Vidya Niketan High School", Bajitpur, Bhograi.

  • His three elder brothers are also actively engaged in social work.

  • The family is blessed to have a temple, of deity Lord Jagannath and Radhakrishna, for over 200 years. Ratha Yatra is celebrated at the family temple as a local festival each year.

  • Once upon a time the family owned 365 acres of land, but most of it has since been donated to the temple and to the public.

  • The family is well known in Bhograi and is respected for its dedication to people’s welfare and umpteen sacrifices made for the locals.

  • For the last few years, local people have been persuading Dr Majumdar to join politics and to carry on developmental work in the area. The support base crosses all barriers.
